HOW?

April 2024, I started a variation of Tracy's classes ideal for what I was trying to achieve

I wanted a combination of weight loss, enhanced core strength & to build resilience.

I’m 100% certain that I wouldn’t have been able to maintain this journey without the help of Tracy herself & the camaraderie of all at First Place Fitness. So thanks everyone!!

 

LIFE & MY IDENTITY

At school I was the chunky kid, never any good at physical ed stuff that required any kind of grace & finesse but was spot on at contact sports like hockey & netball! When I left school I started my nurse training, still chunky, & moved into the nurses Halls of Residence. Best time ever, a gaggle of 18 – 20 years olds on the loose for the first time, we had a blast.

 

LIFE TOOK OVER, WEIGHT CREPT ON, METABOLISM SLOWED DOWN

But back onto the fitness journey. Ok so it was the era of aerobics, neon lycra & legwarmers, so we all joined a gym, & I ended up really loving at & getting proper fit, training hard & running. Life however changes your commitments, & slowly but surely the training took a back seat & the weight crept on. I swear I have the metabolism of a snail.

 

GASPING FOR BREATH – 6 STONE OVERWEIGHT

By the time my eldest was 18 last year I had put 6 stones in weight on since those Halcyon days when I was a fittie. & you can’t blame it on baby fat when said baby is 6 feet tall & shaving. My partner in Feb last year sent me packing to the GP. I was waking myself up in the middle of the night gasping for breath. I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnoea & given a funky mask to wear at night.

 

 

SLEEP APONEA IS A REALLY BAD THING! I NEEDED TO CHANGE

So apparently sleep apnoea is a really bad thing, but has less chance of killing you off in your prime if you reduce your weight by 10 – 15%, so the healthy eating campaign began. At this point I was 16 stones & 4 pounds and my diet was atrocious, lazy food options like bread, pastries, cheese, chocolate.  And zero exercise.  Swapped the high fat/high sugar foods for non-refined, non-processed alternatives, got a GP referral for the gym & the weight started to come off.

 

GAME CHANGER MEETING TRACY & STARTING CLASSES

Then came the game-changer AKA Tracy Dixon. I had been to a Tracy class a few years ago when I first moved to Kendal but was grossly unprepared for how unfit I actually was. However, a friend from work mentioned the weight loss journey asked if I wanted to go with her on a Monday night to First Place Fitness.

 

NEXT LEVEL- RESULTS ACCELERATED

And that’s when things really kicked into high gear for me. Tracy is such a force of nature, is motivating & supportive & I found the variation of classes was ideal for what I was trying to achieve, a combination weight loss & enhancing core strength & resilience, more to the point, I met lots of really welcoming people who have, & are, supporting me on this journey & I now class as friends.

 

YOU CAN MAKE A CHANGE AT ANY TIME

You get to a certain age & you think hey-ho, this is it for me now, this is how I am going to look/feel for the rest of it? It took a health scare to get me up & out of that mindset, but now am trotting around Kendal with my headtorch on, strength & endurance has massively improved beyond expectations & the inhaler is in a drawer somewhere.

 

COMMUNITY, CLASSES, FRIENDSHIPS – SUSTAINABLE RESULTS

I have a reassessment for the sleep apnoea this March so it will be interesting to see the results. I have up to present lost 4 & 9 pounds & I am 100% certain that I wouldn’t have been able to maintain this journey without the help of Tracy herself & the camaraderie of all at First Place Fitness. So thanks everyone!

Losing scales weight is one thing..

With the lifestyle changes you have achieved; phenomenal body composition changes, reduced dangerous visceral fat levels, increased your strength, improved your heart health, aerobic fitness & no doubt increased your longevity as a result.

You have such a warm & friendly presence making everyone around you in classes feel at ease.

You are a beacon of positivity! Showing what is possible to achieve at any age, enjoying the process along the way.

I have a lot of admiration for you & I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next in your journey.
